Continuing with DuVal's Native Nations and learning about so much I was completely ignorant of up until now - Cahokia, so-called Moundville, the Huhugam. Eye-opening and well-written (although, honestly, the use of contractions is vaguely distracting).

I am mystified by the Bullets' bad start to today's game - here - I hope for a competitive second half...

Warm day yesterday so I headed into the bookshop (a real bookshop! bricks and mortar! how novel!) and picked up a print copy of Santagata's Boccaccio in translation.

In other news I finally caved and ordered the usual edition of Tolkien's letters in the nice hardcover that I've been coveting for a while. It looks great (and fills a gap) on the revamped Tolkien bookshelf.

Started on Kathleen DuVal's Native Nations this morning - what a fascinating and eye-opening book. 50 pages in and strongly recommend thus far.

Due to Brian Greene's The Fabric of the Cosmos I have slightly more of a grasp of quantum mechanics than I did yesterday. CityPlannerPlays' new video on the Cities: Skylines 2 Netherlands region pack is great (also, I had no idea Dutch people sometimes refer to themselves as 'dutchies'?). Overnight, we lost Dr. Jane Goodall; you should read this Vox article on her recent interviews.

New month, new ambitions (not really). Windy start to October here. I made some minor edits to the home page and included a visitor counter (thanks entirely to the tutorial provided by dannarchy - see here).

I got on to a tangent (as usual) reading about Norman Mailer and realised I'd never read anything by the guy, just about him. His books are not widely held in libraries, so it's going to be a pain for the local librarians to track one down, but I put it on the to-request list anyway.
